gPanel Sites Overview

The gPanel Sites module helps you stay on top of all Google Sites within your domain. Google Sites allows you to create engaging, high-quality Sites for your team, project, or event within your domain. For example, team managers could create Sites for their team’s use. Sites are great for Q&A pages, process documentation, or team announcements.

While Google’s Admin Console allows you to access the default domain settings for Sites, the Sites module from gPanel allows you to manage sharing, as well as site metadata, giving you more complete control of your Sites.

Sites

When you first navigate to the gPanel Sites module, you’ll see a list of all the Sites within your domain. In the upper right hand corner, you’ll find options to manage your Sites. You can add a Site, giving it a name and a summary.

Here’s a pro-tip! The internal URL that is created will match the name you’ve initially given to the Site. The name can be changed later, but the URL cannot. So keep this in mind as you’re naming your new site.

Additionally, you can clone an existing Site. Cloning sites is incredibly helpful because you can duplicate a template and edit it to your liking, rather than having to build similar sites from scratch repeatedly. You’re probably wondering where the delete option is. Unfortunately, through Google’s API there is not an option to delete.

Select a site on the list to view it's details or use the type-ahead search to find a site. If you only have a few sites in your domain, you should be able to easily see them all here. However, for larger domains with more sites you may have to scroll through the list or use the type-ahead search. Once you’ve got a site’s details opened, you’ll see the submenu, including overview, sharing, and history.

Overview

In the overview tab, you can view and edit an existing Site’s name, summary, and theme, while simultaneously viewing the Site’s URL.

Sharing

The Sharing tab is where you can manage the overall visibility of a Site, and if users are allowed to only view or edit the Site. You can also can manage explicit shares for your Site. Use type-ahead to add a user, or click the button to the right of the user button to use group type-ahead. Once the user or group has been added, you can then manage the role of the added user/group. If you’ve selected multiple users or groups, you’ll see new options to delete in bulk, or to change roles in bulk.

History

Lastly is the History tab. Here you can view the actions taken against a Site made within gPanel. By default, this will be filtered on the current Site you have selected and today’s date. To view the logs, just hit the search button. You can also export this history to a Google Spreadsheet by clicking the export button in the upper right hand corner. Please note, changes made externally from gPanel will not be reflected here.

The gPanel Sites module gives you complete access to all of your additional Sites on your domain.
