Google Cloud Trends: Our Predictions for 2024

Artificial intelligence (AI) and generative AI are top of mind for most businesses these days, and for good reason.

Mounting evidence shows the significant impact gen AI can have on business operations — like this study from MIT showing how ChatGPT increased productivity by 37% and improved the quality of work by 18%.

Given these observable benefits, Gartner estimates that about 80% of enterprises will have used gen AI APIs or deployed gen AI-enabled applications by 2026.

So, what does this mean for you, especially as a Google user?

As more and more businesses adopt AI and related cloud technologies, workplaces will need to prepare their teams and processes for rapid transformation. One of the best ways to prepare is to look at patterns in the current market.

Let's review the current Google Cloud trends impacting organizations in 2024 and beyond.

Trend #1: Creative Adoption of Generative AI

Google recently made Gemini (formerly Duet AI) available to developers.

As a result, we expect to see more rapid product development over the next 12 months as developers embrace streamlined generative AI-assisted development

We also predict that the business world will benefit from Google’s entrance into backend AI, as developers identify new use cases and applications for this revolutionary technology. You can expect to see developers utilizing generative AI in creative ways to solve a variety of challenges.

For example, we'll likely see more developers using gen AI to dramatically streamline their current workflows, update existing products and services, and even create a bevy of brand new products, integrations, tools, and other innovations.

Companies of all sizes should prepare to leverage generative AI to improve operations, innovate their product suite, or enhance the experience for their employees and customers.

Trend #2: Cybersecurity in the AI Era

As AI continues to evolve, so do the concerns around cybersecurity.

While there are potential risks to bringing random AI startups into your business sandbox, enterprise AI solutions are a good start.

Gemini for Google Cloud and Gemini for Google Workspace are both examples of where it’s safe to play with AI, see what it can do for your business, and eschew major security concerns because you already trust the provider.

Even so, it’s wise to set up policies and guidelines for employees to adhere to when using AI for business. There are a lot of larger and more complex factors to consider as AI transcends your IT team and becomes usable across the organization.

In 2024, companies will be diving into deep and potentially complex discussions about their AI policies. It's not just about protecting sensitive data; it's also about securing APIs that serve as the vital connections between applications that integrate AI tools. With AI-powered systems becoming ubiquitous, safeguarding against potential vulnerabilities is a top priority.

Tech leaders should be ready to discuss data security, ethical and fair use, and ensure any regulations are set in place before the larger body of employees begins using or accessing AI.

A holistic and anticipatory approach to AI policy development will protect your team and brand from potential legality issues, data leaks, or other security concerns.

Trend #3: Industry-Specific AI Tools

Organizations of all kinds are already seeing massive benefits from the inclusion and integration of AI. Processes are faster, information is easier to access and solutions of all kinds are available more instantaneously than ever.

Specific industries and verticals will benefit in unique ways from the infusion of AI into their existing work.

One such example is Google’s MedLM. This AI tool from Google Cloud is specific to the healthcare industry. Health and medical organizations can use it to streamline administrative processes and perform backend work to support clinical outcomes.

While MedLM is not intended for clinical use, to diagnose patients, or to be used without human oversight, there are countless ways that AI can help doctors, clinical staff, and administrators get more done, faster, and with greater assurance.

This is just one example of a future where AI, and other emerging technologies, penetrate specific industries, solve specific problems, and move from generally helpful to indispensable.

The Promevo team predicts a continued rollout of new industry-specific Language Learning Models (LLMs) like MedLM which could include anything from travel tech or logistics to climate tech and education.

The Takeaway

The future of technology is at our fingertips in 2024 — everything is getting easier and evolving at the speed of light. With the surge of AI integrations coming to the forefront, decision-makers will need to be prudent, discerning, but willing to explore, too.
