[00:00:00] Mark Baquirin: Hello and welcome. Thank you for joining me today as we explore Google's newest collaboration product, Google Vids. My name is Mark Baquirin and I'll be your host today. I'm a customer engineer at Promevo, your Google Premier partner, and today I'll provide an overview of Google Vids, followed by a short demo.
Google Vids is an AI powered video creation app within your Google workspace that helps you unlock the power of video storytelling. But before I tell you how it does this, let me explain why effective storytelling is more important than ever.
Today's workers live in a noisy world and their attention spans are shrinking. According to Dr. Gloria Mark, author of Attention Span, the average person can only pay attention to one screen for about 47 [00:01:00] minutes, and that makes the need for scalable and engaging communication more important than ever. In fact, 96% of consumers prefer watching explainer videos like this tutorial to learn about products and services.
But this isn't always reflected in the workplace. So how can teams break through the noise and quickly capture the attention of their colleagues and customers, and how can they be more effective communicators? The answer may not surprise you, but video is an effective communication tool in the workplace.
Video can help break through the noise. Did you know using video and emails leads to a 26% higher response rate than text alone? It also builds stronger connection and engagement with your audience. It takes about 30 milliseconds for our brains to start processing faces, and when you're trying to land your message at [00:02:00] scale, 80% of employees prefer video announcements from their CEO.
Meanwhile, the rise of generative AI is empowering new ways of working. Google Vids uses Gemini AI to assist with video creation. The AI has several helpful features, including help me create and generative voiceovers, which can be used to quickly build engaging and well polished videos. Google Vids also features a familiar user interface, so learning to use the app and creating content is an intuitive experience, and being part of Google Workspace means that your content is protected under the same world class security protections as the rest of your Google data. Vids unlocks AI powered video creation that helps employees across your organization tell engaging stories. So how can different teams use it?[00:03:00]
Learning and development teams can deliver employee trainings, customer service can provide better support. Marketing teams can scale their communications with engaging content for internal newsletters. Project management teams can share updates in a way that's both informative and inspiring, and leaders can build connection by sharing company-wide announcements in a more personalized way.
Here are some product details about Google Vids. You can access Google Vids by navigating to vids.new. Other Ways to Access vids is to navigate to vids.google.com, or you can choose Google Vids from the dropdown menu in your Google Drive. To get started and to streamline video creation, use the Help Me Write tool.
Just type in a prompt and vids will generate a draft with an outline. Seen suggestions and even scripted narratives. [00:04:00] If you need to reference documents in your prompt, just type the at symbol and choose the document from the dropdown menu. Now, if you prefer to create a vid without a suggested outline or a generated script, choose templates rather than the help me create tool.
Templates will still save you time by applying pre-designed templates to your scenes, giving them a consistent and professional look. You can even add templated scenes to an existing video by using the template sidebar. Google Vids makes storytelling simple. You can easily import your own media or use the built-in libraries of stock images and videos.
You can also add royalty free music and sound effects, which can really set the tone for your video and increase the impact of your scenes. Okay, so let's talk about bringing your images to life with photo [00:05:00] animation. Photo animation is a key technique to catching your viewer's eye and keeping the narrative moving forward.
Adding animation to a photo is as simple as clicking on the photo and selecting the animation button. This will open up the animation side panel where you can choose from numerous types of animations. From en entrance animations, exit animations, and looping animations. By the way, you can also animate objects or text using the same procedure.
Alright, now let's talk about adding that personal touch using voiceovers. You've got a couple of options here. First, you can use our built-in recording studio. Just open the recording menu and select audio and you're ready to go. This is great for adding your own voice and really connecting with your audience, but it's not just about recording, it's about how you use those voiceovers.
Think of them as your primary audio element. They're perfect for [00:06:00] delivering key messages shown on screen. This encourages recall and really drives action, so use voiceovers to boost your messaging and make sure your points really land. But you don't always have to use your own voice. We have an AI voiceover tool that can generate a custom voiceover from your script.
So if you're not comfortable recording your own voice or if you need something quick and easy. This is a fantastic option. Just provide your script and the AI will do the rest. Now let's talk about taking your audio to the next level with layered sound. It's not just about the voiceover, it's about creating an engaging overall audio experience.
First up, we've got backing tracks. Layering your voiceovers with a low volume backing track can really help keep things moving and keep your viewers interested. It adds a little extra something without overpowering your main message. Now, let's say you need to tweak your [00:07:00] audio. You can easily split an audio file into multiple segments.
Just place the playhead where you want to split it. Select the track and hit split audio. It's super handy for fine tuning, and of course, you've got control over the volume. You can change the volume of any audio file by clicking on it and selecting the sound icon. From here, you can adjust the level and even add transitions.
It's all about getting that audio just right. Wanna keep things on brand styles, lets you apply your brand colors and fonts across your entire video with just a few clicks. And if you're not sure about the exact color code, just use the eyedropper tool to grab it from anywhere. Transitions are key to keeping your video flowing smoothly.
You can add them between scenes, control the timing, and choose different styles. Just remember, fast and seamless is usually best, but don't be afraid to use more dramatic transitions for big changes or key [00:08:00] moments. Captions are super important for accessibility and flexible viewing. Vids automatically supports generated captions, and you can also upload your own custom tracks.
Just be sure to keep your key visuals and text above the bottom fifth of the screen so they don't get covered up. You can add collaborators just like you would in docs or slides, and use comments to tag people and get feedback. It's all about working together seamlessly. When it comes to recording, remember these tips use faces to connect with your audience.
Talk directly to the camera for a personal touch, and show visuals when teaching. And of course, use our built-in recording studio to capture yourself, your screen, or both exporting is easy. You can download your video as an MP four or share a view only link for easy sharing. You can break up your content with new scenes and stylized text to keep viewers [00:09:00] engaged.
Chapter your video with visual indicators makes it easier to follow. And improves watch time With Google Vids, you can highlight key content with object tracks. You can show important messages on screen. Time them with your audio and keep it simple by showing one message at a time. Adjusting the timing of object tracks will make everything look and sound just right.
That concludes our overview of Google Vids, and now we'll jump right into a quick demo where we'll showcase how to create images, video leverage, AI voiceovers, and more. So stay tuned.
Google Vids: Hi. Hello everyone, and welcome to our demo of Google Vids. Today we'll show you how to create a Google Vid from start to finish and point out helpful features along the way. Let's start by navigating to vids.google.com or by selecting Google Vids from your Google Drive dropdown [00:10:00] menu. This will bring you to the Vids homepage where you can create a new vid or reopen an existing one.
You can also just navigate to vids new, to jump right into a new vid. If you need help getting started, just choose help me create and describe your video idea. To add documents to your description, type the at symbol, then select the file from the list. Next Gemini will outline each scene of your vid. You can make any needed adjustments by updating your prompt, editing a scene description, adding additional scenes, or deleting unnecessary scenes.
The next step is choosing a cinematic design from the theme library. After previewing it, you're ready to create the draft video.
The draft video will feature suggested scenes populated with generated text, stock content, and scripted narratives To record voiceovers with [00:11:00] your video draft will contain a video preview section. Below that are controls. To play the video preview, expand the timing section and adjust the timeline. Zoom.
The bottom portion shows the timeline separated into video and audio elements. You can edit each scene using the tools to the right. Any tool you select will be displayed in the side panel. In this case, the Script's tool has been selected. The script has been automatically generated from your initial description, prompt and distributed.
Throughout each scene, you can select a specific scene and review or rewrite that portion of the script. You can personalize the script by recording your voiceover
or use an AI generated voiceover like the one you're listening to now.
Now let's take a closer look at the audio layer in the timeline. Clicking on an audio segment allows you to open the [00:12:00] sound controls to access the volume and faders. Another useful technique is to split the audio segment by right clicking and selecting split audio at Playhead. This will allow you to reposition the audio as you need to.
Your scene controls are located at the top of the page. Here. You can create a new scene, apply templates and styles, duplicate a scene, delete a scene, split a scene at the Playhead and more. Now let's add some royalty free music and sound effects. These tools are both located in the stock and web section here.
You can click to preview the library of choices. After listening to a sample, simply click on it to add it to your timeline. It will be added wherever your playhead is, but you can always drag it to reposition it later.
Now, let's add [00:13:00] some images and videos to our scene. In vids, you can generate an image, add a stock image, or import your own media. To generate an image, select the first tool. Then describe your idea. Choose the aspect ratio, select a style, and click create. After a moment, several images will be produced for you to select from and insert into your scene.
Next, select the stock and web media tool. Here you can enter a search term and specify a category, or you can explore the categories below. When you find what you're looking for, simply select it to add it to your scene.
Next, select drive and photos. With this tool, you are able to import your own media into the scene. Bring your images to life with photo animation. Select your photo and click on the animation button. In the animation side [00:14:00] panel, you can preview and select an animation to apply to your image. Animations can also be applied to objects or text.
Select the object or text and click on the animation button. Then select the type of animation to apply to it. You can choose from a variety of entrance and exit animations to capture your viewer's attention.
Finally, don't forget to add collaborators. It's always helpful to share your vids with others and hear their feedback. Tag your collaborators to edit or review your vid with comments before you go. Make sure to download your vid as an MP four. You can also copy and share the link with other users or groups that have view access permissions.
That's all for now. Thanks for watching, and we'll see you next time.
