Promevo at Google Cloud Next 2024: A Recap

The glitz and glamor of Las Vegas weren’t the only attractions drawing tech enthusiasts to the Strip this year. Google Cloud Next 2024 took center stage, and the Promevo team was there to experience it all.

This highly-anticipated event wasn’t just a platform for new product announcements but a testament to Google Cloud’s commitment to innovation, especially with its advancements in artificial intelligence (AI).

Couldn’t make it to the event or just want to relive the highlights? Here's a comprehensive recap of Google Cloud Next 2024, including insights from Promevo’s certified Google Cloud experts.

Google Enters The Gemini Era

Throughout Next 2024, the Google Cloud team showcased many groundbreaking updates — 218, to be exact — and innovations in the realms of AI and cloud computing.

A lot of these updates were related to Gemini, Google’s powerful new generative AI tool for Google Workspace and Google Cloud. Specifically, they introduced attendees to the Gemini family of models, designed to help teams accomplish more in the cloud.

Gemini for Google Cloud made a splash in particular, marking a new generation of AI assistants for developers, Google Cloud services, and applications. Likewise, attendees were buzzing about new Gemini integrations in the cloud, including  Gemini in Security Operations, Gemini in BigQuery, Gemini in Looker, and Gemini in Databases.

During the conference, Google also announced two new Google Workspace add-ons designed to inject gen AI into the productivity suite.

The AI Meetings & Messaging add-on is designed to help users look and sound their best in Google Meet with studio look, studio lighting, studio sound. In the future, Google says the add-on will soon include a “take notes for me” feature that automatically generates action items from meetings, on-demand conversation summaries in Google Chat, and more.

The new AI Security add-on provides access to the AI Classification capability in Google Drive, allowing IT teams to automatically and continuously identify, classify, and label sensitive files across the organization.

Overall, Gemini was everywhere at Google Cloud Next 2024. It’s no wonder Google has deemed this the “Gemini era.”

John Pettit, Promevo's CTO, spoke about the substantial footprint of Gemini across Google’s ecosystem during our Google Cloud Next 2024 recap webinar, highlighting its manifestation in every product and presentation at the event. He also noted a leap from theory to real-world applications.

“What I think was very interesting to see,” he said,“is the shift from people talking about Gemini to having very real experimentations, plus pushes into real production workflows. And we're seeing that happening at big clients transforming their operations, whether it's in retail or banking or automotive. Just about everywhere. This is definitely something that's here and continuing to grow and evolve.”

John also noted how Google’s investments in TPUs (tensor processing units) and the unveiling of Gemini 1.5 Pro and Imagen 2.0 signify a leap in computational power and AI capabilities, a beacon for what’s ahead in AI-driven solutions.

Amid all of the Gemini updates, Google also unveiled Chrome Enterprise Premium, a new security offering designed to help modern enterprises simplify and strengthen endpoint security. “Chrome Enterprise Premium builds on the core capabilities available in Chrome Enterprise,” Google explains, “which gives organizations the secure, reliable browser their employees prefer to use with management tools for IT and security teams built in.”
