Google Brings Gemini AI to Google Workspace: A 2025 Pricing Guide

Google recently announced an exciting update to its product lineup — Gemini AI is now part of the Google Workspace suite.

This change means that Gemini AI is no longer a standalone product; instead, it is now included in the cost of Google Workspace Business and Enterprise plans. While this integration brings cutting-edge AI features directly to Workspace, it also comes with price adjustments, set to take effect for existing subscriptions renewing on or after March 17, 2025. Any new subscriptions will be subject to list pricing starting January 31, 2025.

Let’s dive into the details and what they mean for your organization.

What’s Changing With Gemini AI & Google Workspace?

Starting January 15, 2025, all organizations using Google Workspace Business or Enterprise plans gained access to Gemini AI features, including:

  • Gemini Side Panel in Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Drive, and more: A convenient tool to assist with tasks across Workspace apps.
  • Help Me Write in Gmail and Docs: Generate polished content with ease.
  • Take Notes in Meet: Automatically capture and organize meeting notes.
  • Gemini Advanced: Enhanced AI-powered tools for advanced use cases.
  • NotebookLM Plus: Your personalized AI-powered notebook for dynamic content and data management.

Current Gemini subscribers will maintain access to the Gemini AI features they purchased but will no longer be charged for the Gemini add-on after March 31, 2025.

To reflect these AI capabilities, as well as other enhancements made to Google Workspace in 2024, Google is also adjusting the pricing for its Business and Enterprise plans according to the chart below*. These changes will apply to both flexible and annual subscription plans renewing on or after March 17, 2025.

The integration of Gemini AI into Google Workspace brings significant value by streamlining workflows, improving collaboration, and leveraging the power of AI to enhance productivity. While the price increase reflects these additional features, your organization now has access to tools that can transform the way your team works.

No action is required from you — these changes will take effect automatically when your subscription renews. However, if you wish to turn off access to the Gemini app for your organization or specific teams, Google provides guidance on how to do so here.

Industry Perspective: Promevo CTO John Pettit Weighs In

We understand that Google Workspace customers likely have a lot of questions about this change — especially those who weren’t previously subscribed to Gemini or are new to AI altogether. However, we believe the inclusion of Gemini AI in Workspace will have a positive impact on many organizations.

John Pettit, CTO at Promevo, recently shared his insights on these changes in an interview with CRN. He described the integration of Gemini AI into Workspace as "the next logical step," noting that the previous add-on cost was a barrier for many customers.

“We saw a lot of people see real gains after six weeks of using AI technology, but the cost factor was one of the elements that was limiting their initial deployment of users,” said Pettit. “This is great for us because it means more AI deployed into more companies and getting customers to see the tangible benefit of productivity gains they can get from it.”

Pettit also emphasized that Google’s continuous innovation will create new opportunities for maybe Workspace customers.

“There’s no standing in place when you have something this transformative happening in terms of technology,” he added. “That’s going to continue to be the trend for the foreseeable future.”
