Promevo at Google Cloud Next 2025: A Recap

The Promevo team has returned from an electrifying Google Cloud Next 2025 in Las Vegas, and we're still buzzing from the sheer volume of innovation and announcements. As a Google Cloud Premier Partner, Promevo was on the ground, immersed in the four days of learning, conversation, and groundbreaking reveals that brought together over 45,000 Google customers, partners, developers, and employees.

Google Cloud Next is Google's annual flagship event, and this year's conference delivered over 220 significant announcements, a testament to the rapid evolution of cloud technology, spearheaded by advancements in artificial intelligence.

Our team diligently sifted through the extensive news to identify the most significant and impactful updates for end users leveraging Google Cloud tools like Gemini and Vertex AI, Google Cloud Platform, Looker, BigQuery, and Google Workspace.

A Marathon of Innovation

Let's be frank, Google Cloud Next is an intense experience. As Brandon Carter, our Marketing Director and host for our post-event recap webinar, mentioned, the team’s average step count clocked in at around 18,000 steps a day. But beyond the physical exertion, the energy and excitement were palpable.

Our booth was a hub of activity where we enjoyed talking to numerous conference attendees and showcasing our expertise in all things Google Cloud. We were excited to demo Promevo Insights, our data visualization tool that helps you optimize your cloud environment and reduce costs.

AI Takes Center Stage

Much like the 2024 conference, AI remained a dominant theme of Google Cloud Next 2025 became crystal clear. As our Chief Technology Officer, John Petit, aptly put during our recap webinar, "[Google Next 2025] was all about AI. It felt like more of an AI conference than a cloud conference this year."

John also highlighted Google's remarkable progress in the AI space over the past year, pinpointing the release of Gemini 2.0 as a significant "inflection point,” followed by the subsequent unveiling of Gemini 2.5 at this year’s conference.

However, the focus wasn't solely on the models themselves. John emphasized the holistic approach Google is taking: "it's not just the models or APIs that they're focusing on, it's the whole platform, right? [Google is] doing the best job at integrating AI across their entire tech stack, their products, their cloud environment."

Aaron Gutierrez, who leads our data analytics practice and is our resident expert on Looker and BigQuery, also noted a significant shift in how Google is communicating the value of AI. "I think Google is really getting better at telling the story of how AI is even useful to people." He referenced the demonstrations showcasing the use of Google tools and AI, moving beyond the perception of AI as just "fancy auto complete."

Mark Baquirin, our Google Workspace expert, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the continued evolution and integration of Gemini into Google applications. Since January, Gemini has been increasingly embedded within Workspace. Google Next showcased further enhancements, providing Workspace users with even more tools and more ways to use Gemini and AI.

The Top Announcements From Google Next

Now, you’re probably wondering about the specific announcements made at this year’s conference. Below were some of our favorites, many of which we discussed in depth during our recap webinar — now available on demand.

Enhancing Gemini & Google AI

  • Gemini 2.5 Pro: This "deep reasoning model" is now available in public preview. Engineered for maximum quality, it excels at handling complex tasks with high accuracy and is currently ranked #1 on Chatbot Arena. Gemini 2.5 Flash, a model optimized for low latency and cost efficiency, is also on the horizon.
  • Imagen: Google continues to push the boundaries of image editing with Imagen, integrated within GCP. This allows for simple yet powerful image manipulation directly within the cloud environment. Imagen 3, their highest quality text-to-image model, now features improved image generation and inpainting capabilities.
  • Chirp: Google's voice capabilities have taken a significant leap forward with Chirp 3. Notably, the API now allows users to create custom synthetic voices with just 10 seconds of audio input. This has profound implications for accessibility, personalized customer service, and localized content creation.
  • Vertex AI Model Garden: Google's commitment to an open ecosystem was evident in the advancements to the Vertex AI Model Garden. Users can now seamlessly deploy and serve up a variety of open-source models, including Meta's Llama 4, as well as Google's own Maverick and Scout. This provides flexibility for users to compare model performance, choose models tailored to specific tasks, or even prototype in Google Cloud before hosting models internally in hybrid scenarios.

Beyond these specific models, Google unveiled significant advancements in its AI infrastructure. Their AI Hypercomputer architecture has been significantly upgraded for better performance, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. This includes the seventh generation of their custom silicon chips, Ironwood TPUs, which offer a 10x performance leap compared to their previous high-performance TPU.

Furthermore, Pathways, Google's distributed ML runtime powering Gemini, is now available for cloud customers, enabling state-of-the-art multi-host inferencing. Google is also bringing vLLM to TPUs, making it easier for customers who have optimized PyTorch to run their workloads on TPUs cost-efficiently.

Agentspace & Enhanced Workspace AI

A significant buzz surrounded Agentspace, Google Cloud's new solution for building and deploying AI agents.

During our recap webinar, Mark Baquirin explained that while the full capabilities are still being developed, Agentspace aims to connect various applications, including through custom connectors for apps not natively supported. This interoperability is a key aspect, allowing different agents, both Google-made and third-party, to communicate and work together.

The integration of Gemini into Google Workspace also continues to deepen, offering practical AI assistance directly within familiar applications. One significant feature highlighted was the ability to summarize discussions in Google Chat as a table, extract key points, and even suggest next steps or replies. This moves beyond simple email generation to truly augmenting communication and collaboration.

Google also announced Google Workspace Flows, designed to help automate time-consuming repetitive tasks across your Google apps. For example, you can create a flow for incoming customer support requests that automatically reviews incoming forms, figures out the core issue, researches potential solutions, drafts a helpful reply, and flags it for the support team to review and send.

Additional Workspace features like "Help me Analyze" in Google Sheets promise to transform how users interact with data, providing intelligent insights without requiring deep spreadsheet expertise. Similarly, "Docs Audio Overview" allows for the creation of high-quality audio versions of documents.

Data Analytics Powered by AI

During our recap webinar, Aaron Gutierrez highlighted that while AI dominated the conversation, there were significant announcements in the data analytics space as well. The theme revolved around an autonomous data-to-AI platform powered by BigQuery, alongside the unified and conversational Looker BI platform.

Key announcements included:

  • Looker conversational analytics, now in preview, which allows business users to interact with data using natural language.
  • The BigQuery AI query engine, which lets data scientists process structured and unstructured data together with real-world context, leveraging Gemini's capabilities.
  • The data science agent, embedded within Google's Colab notebook, provides intelligent model selection and accelerates the data science workflow.
  • BigQuery knowledge engine, which leverages Gemini to analyze schema relationships, table descriptions, and query histories to generate metadata on the fly.

These advancements aim to make data analysis more accessible, efficient, and insightful, empowering users across different roles within an organization.
